Marilyn Lohela

HANCOCK — Marilyn Lohela, 89, of Hancock, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 13, 2019, at the Omega House, surrounded by loved ones.

She was born in Hancock, on January 23, 1930. She graduated from Hancock High School in 1947, and Suomi Business College in 1948, after which she worked at the Superior National Bank.

On October 16, 1954, she married Carl Lohela and spent her happiest years as a homemaker, enjoying cooking, gardening, and spending time with her husband, their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She and Carl celebrated 50 years of marriage before he passed away, in January of 2007.

She is survived by her children, Anne (John) Childs of Flagstaff, Arizona; her son, Matt of Harbor Springs; and three beloved grandchildren, Kristen, Andrea, and Luke; as well as their spouses and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Betty Barth; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; her parents, William and Ruth (Peltier) Barth; her brother, Bob Barth; and her sister, Mary Ruth Johnson.

Marilyn created a wonderful home, a place where family and friends gathered to share life and love. She has left us a great legacy of what really matters in life – people. She is greatly loved and will be missed by her family.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Portage Hospice and Omega House for their compassionate and professional care for Marilyn during her final days.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock. The Reverend Father Corbin Eddy will officiate.

Friends may call at the O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home on Monday, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. before the services.

Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to Omega House, 2211 Maureen Lane, Houghton, 49930.
