William (Bill) Rosco Myers

DEARBORN HEIGHTS – William Rosco Myers (Bill), 91, entered heaven’s gates on June 5, 2019. Bill passed peacefully at his home in Dearborn Heights, surrounded by his wife and family.

Bill was born on June 11, 1927, in Painesdale, to James and Hilda (Lindquist-Koskela) Myers.

He lived in Calumet, where he loved to hunt and fish.

In 1945, he joined the United States Army, where he served in the 385th MP Battalion – during WWII in occupied Germany.

After returning from the war, Bill moved to Detroit, where he met the love of his life, Rita.

Throughout 63 years of marriage, they raised nine children in Dearborn Heights.

Bill was a devoted Catholic and longtime parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen Church in Melvindale. He enjoyed gardening, trips to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, laughing, and spending time with his sixteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Bill worked most of his life at Pontiac Motors, retiring in 1998, after 36 years of service as a pipe fitter.

He is survived by his wife, Rita (MacLellan); nine children, Arthur and Kathy Myers, Brian Myers, Kevin and Cindy Myers, Diana Wilson, Maureen and Rick Trabulsy, James Myers and Jan Tankersley, Colin and Rochelle Myers, Theresa and Jeff Morrin, Byron Myers and Kelly Devlin; sixteen grandchildren, Allen, Angie, Blake, Brooke, Carlie, Charity (Steve), Christan (Jason), Heather, Jeremy (Jerry), Jordin, Justin, Keith, Matthew, Paige, Raymond (Melissa), Reese, and Vanessa (RJ); and eight great-grandchildren, Anthony, Aya, Cara, Connor, Lilianna, Mikayla, Rownan, and Zander. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret Purainen; and many nieces and nephews, and extended family members.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, James and Hilda (Lindquist-Koskela) Myers; siblings, Sylvia and Frank Bolf, John and Rena Myers, James and Gladis Myers, Blanche and Ernie Rahja, Catherine and Joe Rushford, Ruth and Roy Corlis, Doris, and Shirly and Jerry Turner; Margaret’s first husband, John Tucker and second husband, Jake Purainen; and one great grandchild, Jaxson William Gora.

Visitation will be held at Voran Funeral Home, 5900 Allen Road, Allen Park, MI, on Monday, June 10, 2019, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m., Family Eulogy at 6:30 p.m., and Praying of the Rosary at 7 p.m.

Mass will be held at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 19624 Wood Street, Melvindale, MI, on Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at 10 a.m. William Myers will lay in state from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. immediately prior to Mass.

Prayer service immediately following Mass at St. Hedwig Cemetery, 23755 Military Road, in Dearborn Heights.

The burial is scheduled later in the afternoon at 2:30 p.m
