Michael Joseph Hirzel

BARAGA – Michael Joseph Hirzel, 61, of Baraga, passed away on Friday, July 5, 2019 at U.P. Health System, Marquette, with his family at his side.

He was born May 4, 1958, in Grand Rapids, son of Frank and Patricia (Bouchard) Hirzel. In 1976 Mike graduated from Catholic Central High School in Grand Rapids. He was in the US Navy from 1982-88. Mike married Jeanne Lindemann on August 19, 1989 at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Assinins. He worked at Pettibone for 20 years before going to work at Massie Manufacturing where he was an electronic specialist and manager.

Mike loved computers, electronics, gadgets, and inventing things involving electronics. He enjoyed camping, kayaking, audio books, listening to music, and loved spending time with his grandkids.

Surviving are his wife, Jeanne Hirzel of Baraga; children, Eric Hirzel of Mesquite, Texas, Miranda (Daniel) Derocha of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Kaycee (Richard) Jacobson of Marquette, Darek Lindemann of Baraga, Ian (Molly) Hirzel of Prince Fredrick, Maryland; siblings, Lucy Hirzel of Grand Rapids, Mark (Jennifer) Hirzel of Grand Rapids, and Elizabeth Hirzel of Houghton; grandchildren, Joanna Langston, Kathryn Langston, Joseph Langston, Noah Langston, Gabrielle Langston, Alexis Jacobson, Tyler Jacobson, Brantley Derocha; mother-in-law, JoDean Lindemann; several nieces, nephews, in-laws; and grand pups, Shortstop, Sophie, Snuggles, and Julie.

Preceding him in death are his parents; brother, Steve; and infant brother, Michael.

Visitation will be on Monday, July 8, 2019 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home. His funeral service will be at 1 p.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home with Jeremy Brown officiating.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Baraga Cemetery with Baraga County Area Veterans conducting military rites under the direction of American Legion Post 444. A luncheon will follow at the American Legion Post in Baraga.
