David Edward Karinen

BALTIC — David Edward Karinen, 74, of Baltic, Mich., formerly of Houghton Lake, Mich. and Novi, Mich., died Saturday, August 10, 2019, at Lighthouse at Hancock Health and Rehabilitation after a lengthy illness.

He was born on November 1, 1944, in Trimountain, to Samuel and Impi Karinen, the second youngest of six children. He graduated from Jeffers High School in Painesdale, in 1962.

After high school, Dave enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in the 1st Battalion, 77th Artillery in Korea.

He was designated a marksman. In 1964, he transferred to the U.S. Army Reserve from which he was honorably discharged in 1968.

Following his active military service, Dave moved to Southeast Michigan to work as a carpenter. He was a member of the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters from which he retired in 2005.

His hobbies included deer hunting and watching sports, especially the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings. He also admired classic and muscle cars.

Dave is survived by his daughter, Angela (William) Mullan of South Lyon; grandchildren, Audrey, Meredith and Charles Mullan; several nieces and a nephew; and many cousins.

He was predeceased by his five siblings, a nephew, and his partner of 26 years, Linda.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at Elo Cemetery with military rites to be conducted by the Copper Country Veteran’s Association.
