Allen “Stuey” Waltanen

ATLANTIC MINE — Allen “Stuey” Waltanen, 80, of Atlantic Mine, died November 21, 2019, at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette.

He was born January 1, 1939, at the family farm on the Tapiola Road, a son of the late Henry Waltanen and Ethel Rintala.

Allen was a veteran of the U.S. Army, later enlisting in the U.S. Air Force stationed at K. I. Sawyer Air Force Base, retired as Master Sergeant with 22 years of service.

Allen was married to the former Wanda Cook on November 23, 2004. She preceded him in death December 3, 2014.

Besides his parents, Allen was preceded in death by a son, Steven Waltanen; brothers, Roy Waltanen and Melvin Waltanen; sister, Jane Lipuma; two grandchildren, Katie Waltanen and John Phillips; and two nieces, Renee Waltanen and Peggy Waltanen.

Surviving are two sons, Bradley Waltanen (Shannon Mattson) of Painesdale, and Allen J. Waltanen of Atlantic Mine; a daughter, Lonita R. (Rick) VanDrees of Shawano, Wisconsin; a sister, Carol (Al) Tudor of Wisconsin; uncle, Michael “Willie” Waltanen, Sr. of Toivola; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services with military rites will take place in the spring in the Veterans Section at the Mountain View Cemetery in South Range.
