William E. (Bill) Obst

HANCOCK — William E. (Bill) Obst, entered his heavenly reward on November 2, 2019. He was born on March 29, 1936, in Laurium.

Bill worked for 30 years as a financial office Manager for the Houghton County Road Commission. After retirement, Bill worked for Traverse Engineering. Bill was a past president of the Chamber of Commerce as well as the Portage Lake District Library.

He served in the U.S. Army.

His hobbies were playing pool with Dick, Norm, Tom and Arthur as well as playing chess, stamp collecting, coin collecting, fishing, reading, gardening and computer programing. Bill’s Rose Garden was his pride and joy. His greatest love was being a grandpa to Austin Gajewski who he gave his heart to the moment he was born and loved above anyone else. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Teresa (Miszkiewicz) Obst; adoring and loving daughter, Tanya Gajewska (Evan Reiter); loving son, Todd Gajewski (Lindsay) and Shi; his grandson, Austin Gajewski; his nephew, Dr. Steven Miskiewicz (Sara) Molly and Anna. Very special people in his life that were also in his heart were Matthew and Emily Schneider, Marie Lavine and Dave Schneider; brother, Tom (June); niece, Victoria many friends but especially sister, Mary Gardner and father, Mariusz Sierhart; friends, Joe, Joyce and Hunter Battisfore meant the word to him as well as Cathy and Mark Campbell Olszewski.

A mass of Christian Burial for William will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at Church of the Resurrection in Hancock, with Fr. William Ssozi and Fr. Mariusz Sierhart to celebrate.
