William E. Obst

HANCOCK — William E. Obst, entered His heavenly reward on November 2, 2019. He was born on March 29, 1936, in Laurium.

He is survived by his loving wife, Teresa (Miszkiewicz) Obst and adoring and loving daughter, Tanya Gajewska (Evan Reiter) and loving son, Todd Gajewski (Lindsay) and Shi. He is survived by his grandson, Austin Gajewski. His greatest love was being a grandpa to Austin Gajewski who he gave his heart to the moment he was born and loved above anyone else.

He is survived by special nephew, Dr. Steven Miszkiewicz (Sara), Molly and Anna.

Very special people in his life that were also in his heart were Matthew and Emily Schneider, Marie Lavigne and Dave Schneider. Many friends, but especially Sister Maryl Gardner and Father Mariusz Sierhart.

Special friends Joe, Joye and Hunter Battisfore meant the world to him as well as Cathy and Mark Campbel Olszewski.

Bill worked for 30 years as a financial office Manager for the Houghton County Road Commission. After retirement, Bill worked for Traverse Engineering.

Bill was a past president of the Chamber of Commerce as well as the Portage Lake District Library.

His hobbies were playing pool with Dick, Norm, Tom and Arthur as well as playing chess, stamp collecting, coin collecting, fishing, reading, gardening, and computer programming. Bill’s Rose Garden was his pride and joy.

A mass of Christian Burial for William will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at Church of the Resurrection in Hancock, with Fr. William Ssozi and Fr. Mariusz Sierhart to celebrate.

Military Honor Guards from the Copper Country Veteran’s Association will conclude the service.
