Marvin C. Moilanen

HANCOCK — Marvin C. Moilanen, 82, a resident of Hancock, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2020, at home following a lengthy illness.

He was born on April 18, 1937, in Hancock, a son of the late Charles and Laina (Kallio) Moilanen. Marvin was raised in Hancock and Pennsylvania. He was raised up in the Christian faith & believed in our Lord, Jesus.

On March 1, 1958, he was united in marriage to the former Kathryn Koski. The couple had resided in Montana for a short time, Ontonagon, for four years before making their home in White Pine, for 27 years. During that time Marvin had worked in different mines retiring from the White Pine Copper Mine as a Production Foreman. Since 1987, the couple has made their home in Hancock.

Mr. Moilanen enjoyed drawing structures, cartooning and wood working projects. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially the love of his life, his wife of almost 62 years. He has been an inspiration to all of us, in showing truly great bravery in his struggles with several illnesses. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

Preceding him in death were his daughter, Doris Calhoun; his granddaughter, Amber Fisher; his parents, Laina and Charles Moilanen; his mother and father-in-law, Selda and Toivo Koski; his brothers-in-law, Howard Koski, Marvin Koski, Bill Stolper, & Jerry VanNewkirk; his cousin, Dennis Kallio and close friend of the family, Michael Nutini.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Kathryn Moilanen of Michigam; his children, Marvin Moilanen Jr. of Wisconsin, Sheryne (Keith) Stoddard of Illinois, Denise (Dan) O’Hara of Florida, Carrie (Dr. Joe) Zobro of Michigan, Sheila (John) Agnew of New York, Susan Hartfield of Michigan; his son-in-law, Daniel Calhoun of Minnesota, 22 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildre; his cousins, Judy Rupley, Phyllis Sague, Carol Stolberg, Roger Kallio, Hildra Christopherson & Marlene Clemons; his brothers-in-law, Roy Koski & Fran (Caroline) Koski; his sisters-in-law, Delores Stolper, Barbara VanNewkirk & Dorothy (Stan) Dvorak; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service for Marvin will be held later this summer.
