Betty Lorraine Tapani

SOUTH RANGE — Betty Lorraine Tapani, 84, a resident of South Range, passed away on May 23, 2020, at the Omega House.

She was born in South Range on June 13, 1935, a daughter of the late Arthur and Jennie (Kinnunen) Sjostrand, and was a 1953 graduate of Jeffers High School.

On July 21, 1956, she married Ralph Tapani in South Range. Betty worked at Kivi’s Grocery store and later, as an aide for the Adams Township School District.

Betty was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to so many. She loved to visit and she welcomed so many into her home throughout her life. Betty loved writing and volunteering at the South Range Historical Museum. Betty spent her entire life in South Range, the place she always told her granddaughters was the only place she ever wanted to be.

Surviving are her husband, Ralph; a son, Gregg; and daughter, Shelley Maginnis; three granddaughters, Stephanie (Dan) Kimball, Jenny (Floyd Alma) Maginnis and Ashley Maginnis; and five great-grandchildren, Dezi, Miya, Finn, Noah and Travis; one sister, Gloria Stone of South Range; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents, Betty was also preceded in death by a son, Stephen; two sisters, Esther Pennanen and Joyce Paulson; two brothers, Einar and Edwin Sjostrand; brothers-in-law, Clem Stone and Ronald Paulson; a niece Donna Stone; two nephews, Michael Pennanen and Gary Paulson.

A private burial will take place at the Mountain View Cemetery in South Range on Friday, May 29, 2020.
