John B. Hosang

HUBBELL — John B. Hosang, 80 years old, passed away at UP Health System-Portage on May 25, 2020, after a brief illness.

John was born in Hubbell on February 7, 1940, a son of Lawrence and Monica (Hochstein) Hosang. He graduated from Sacred Heart Schools in 1958.

John was employed by Quincy Mining Company in the 1960’s and then worked in the Print Shop at Michigan Tech University until his retirement in 1995. For the next 15 years, he worked for the Lake Linden-Hubbell Public Schools as a substitute bus driver. Driving the athletic teams and student groups was one of the most rewarding experiences of his life. His family was often told that he might not be available for a gathering or event because “he might get called to drive bus.” He also loved to go four-wheeling and spent many hours having coffee with “the guys” in his garage.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Lawrence, two sisters, Laurine and Mary, and his former wife, Cynthia “Cookie” Klein.

He is survived by two daughters, Lori (Todd) LaRoux of Lake Linden and Jeri Hosang of Marquette; grandchildren, John (Ashley) Monette of Saxon, Wis., Nick (Jessica) Monette of Gonzales, La., Josh LaRoux of Lake Linden, Kristyn (Nick) Marten of Bradenton, Fla., Tony Fedrizzi of Marquette and Andrew Fedrizzi of Marquette; great-granddaughter, Sophie James Monette; a brother, Carl (Julie) Hosang of Ishpeming and a sister, Ann Hosang of Lake Linden, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 29, at the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Lake Linden with Fr. Joseph Boakye-Yiadom to officiate.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a donation may be made to the Lake Linden-Hubbell Schools All Sports Booster Club.

Pearce Funeral Home, Lake Linden, is serving the family, where condolences may be expressed online at pearcefuneralhome.com.
