Eileen ‘Judy’ Austin

She was born on May 5, 1932, in Chassell, a daughter of the late Edmond and Maud (Schannenk) Friday. Judy was a graduate of the Chassell High School and received a BS degree from Soumi College.

On May 27, 1950, she was united in marriage to Stephen “Don” Austin. The couple resided in Chassell where they raised their family. On June 14, 2005, Don preceded Judy in death.

Judy was a lifelong member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church of Chassell. She had worked as a CNA for Portage View Hospital and the Houghton County Medical Care Facility (Canal View–Houghton County) until her retirement at the age of 72. She enjoyed a lifetime of family, friends, grandkids and chocolate!

Preceding her in death were her husband; her son, James Austin; her son-in-law, Russell Ruotsi; and her daughter-in-law, Darlene Austin.

Surviving are her children, Stephen Austin Jr., Cheri Ruotsi, Shelby (John) Turnquist, Michelle (Murray) Gillis and Craig (Kristina) Austin.

Her daughter-in-law, Gail Austin; 14 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; her brother-in-law, John Austin; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and family friends, John Pekkala and Myrna Godnek.

Due to Covid constraints, a private Mass of Christian Burial for Judy will be held at St. Anne’s Catholic Church of Chassell, with Fr. Ben Hasse to officiate.

Burial will be in the Chassell Cemetery.

Friends may call on Monday, July 13, 2020 at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Chassell from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
