Rose ‘Rosie’ Stemberger

PAINESDALE — Rose “Rosie” Marie Stemberger, 84, of Painesdale, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2020, in Indiana at the home of her son, with her family around her.

Rosie was born in Seeberville on August 26, 1935, at the home of her parents of Joseph & Mary (Grentz) Butina. Rosie was one of nine children.

She married to Stephen Stemberger on October 6, 1956, in Warren. After they married, they moved to White Pine, where they raised their family.

Rosie dedicated her life to her family; she was a Domestic Engineer (homemaker). Rosie was a member of the St. Jude and Holy Family Catholic Churches. She was extremely involved with her grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s events.

Rosie loved to sing and dance with her husband, Steve’s Polka Band, “The Good Times.” Her Yugoslovian heritage was very important to Rosie as she made many “Sarma dinners.”

Rosie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Stephen, in 2003, just shy of 47 years of marriage; her parents, Joseph and Mary; and siblings, George, Joseph, Mary, Magdaline.

Surviving are her children, Tina Stemberger of White Pine, Lori Shorpshire of Indiana, and Steven (Janice) Stemberger of Indiana; grandchildren, Nina (Sean) Winkel, Heather (Tony) Davis, Stephanie (Derek) Harris, and Jessica Miller; along with 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Steve Butina, Martin Butina, John (Ronni) Butina and James Butina, Ph.D. She was also blessed with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be at Holy Family Catholic Church in South Range on Saturday, August 29, 2020, at 10 a.m. with Fr. John Martignon officiating, and close family friend for many years, Deacon Richard Hulan, Assisting.
