Frederick ‘Fred’ Testa

LAKE LINDEN — Frederick “Fred” Testa, 72, a resident of Lake Linden, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday morning, August 30, 2020, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on September 24, 1947, in Herkimer, New York a son of the late Nickolas and Mary (Piscione) Testa.

He graduated from Herkimer High School with the Class of 1965 and then attended Fulton-Montgomery Community College in Johnstown, New York.

On June 21, 1985, he was united in marriage to the former Joann Crouch in Lake Linden.

Fred Worked as a mason/brick layer for his entire 51-year working career. Locally, he worked at Mattila Construction and at Moyle Construction for 25 years. He took a lot of pride in the work he did, whether it was a fireplace or a chimney. Fred was most proud of the work he did at the Italian Hall, reconstructing the current Italian Hall Memorial.

He enjoyed flying and received his pilot’s license in 1978 at Manassas, Virginia. He was a 1st Lt. with the Civil Air Patrol.

Fred was a life member of the NRA and a member of the Skinny Club. He enjoyed many hours at their hunting camp.

Preceding him in death were parents, Mother and Father-in-law, Leonard and Lucille Crouch; nephews, John Piippo and Anthony Riente; brother-in-laws, Richard Beiring and Larry Rheault; and sister-in-law, Debra Beiring.

Suriviving are his wife, JoAnn; sisters, Mary (Thomas) Thomas of Herkimer, New York, Carol (John) Riente of Fairfax, Virginia, sister-in-laws, Lennet (David) Piippo of Hubbell, Sandra Rheault of Bootjack, Cheryl (Peter) Stevens of Lake Linden, brother-in-laws, Drew (Amee) Crouch of Hubbell, John (Paula) Crouch of Sault Ste. Marie, Randall (Kathy) Crouch Calumet and Chris (Nancy) Crouch of Hancock; uncle, Ron (Janice) Crouch; Aunt, Josephine Zubiena; special cousin, Joe Enrietti; a very special person, Matt Sutinen; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Portage Home Care and Hospice and to Dr. Liston for the care given to Fred in his final days.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2020, at 4 p.m. in the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home.

Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home on Wednesday, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Lake Linden.
