Harold J. Bessner

LAKE LINDEN — Harold J. Bessner, 90, longtime resident of Lake Linden, passed away at Garden View in Calumet on September 23, 2020.

He was born on March 25, 1930, a son of Herman and Jeanette Bessner. He graduated from Lake Linden-Hubbell High School in 1949. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in Korea.

Harold had 30 years with the U.S. Postal Service, working in Lake Linden, Chassell and retiring as the Postmaster in Baraga.

He was married to Fern Berryman on September 5, 1959. Fern passed away on February 15, 2005.

Harold was a member of the National League of Postmasters, American Legion Post 90, and Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Linden.

He enjoyed woodworking, working around the house, and attending the sporting events of his children and grandchildren. He was an avid Tigers, Lions, and Redwings fan.

Harold’s family wishes to thank the staff at Garden View in Calumet and Aspirus at Home for the care he received.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, wife, a son-Darren Bessner, brothers-Raymond, Robert, Kenneth, and brother-in-law-Chris Little.

He is survived by: sons-Michael (Laura) Baril of Dollar Bay, David (Diane) Baril of Lake Linden, Ronald (Leslie) Baril of Remus, MI; a daughter-Donna (Robert) Pedrosky of Pittsburg, PA; grandchildren-Sara, Rob, Kristine, Jeff, Tom, Ben, Krista, Ron, Mike, Jason, and Chandra; sisters, Barbara (Stanley) Heikell, Beverly (Chuck) Gibson, and Sharon Little; brothers-Ronald (Debbie) Bessner and Francis (Nancy) Bessner; along with numerous greatgrandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2020, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Linden with Fr. Gracious Pulimoottil to officiate. There will be no public visitation. The Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lake Linden-Hubbell Public Schools.
