Marie Anderson Jacobson

PELKIE — Marie Anderson Jacobson, 76, of Pelkie, went to be with her Lord and Savior, on October 15, 2020.

She was born on February 15, 1944, daughter of Elden and Leona (Batdorf) Anderson. Marie grew up on a dairy farm in Maple Plain, Minnesota. She graduated from Delano High School before earning her degree from McPhail College of Music in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She then worked as a nanny for a count and countess in Austria while furthering her training as a classical pianist.

Marie married Albin Jacobson on September 9, 1967, in Maple Plain, Minnesota. She devoted much of her time to educating her own children and others, teaching kindergarten at the Baraga Area Schools in 1966 and serving as a volunteer teacher at the Copper Country Christian School during the mid-1990s.

Above all else, Marie was a follower of Jesus Christ. She loved God deeply and lived faithfully through several tragedies and numerous health challenges. Marie was a treasured friend who prayed earnestly and diligently for other people. She encouraged many towards a deeper relationship with Jesus through engaging conversations, thoughtful Bible study, and her lifelong piano ministry that included preludes at L’Anse Baptist Church. Through her Savior, Marie had an unwavering peace on earth and unfaltering hope for eternity in heaven.

Marie enjoyed countless adventures with her kids and grandkids – four-wheeling through the woods, bouncing behind a boat on an oversized innertube and spending relaxing days swimming and snorkeling in the ocean. Whether by phone, email, text, or zoom, “Grandma in the Woods” wanted to connect with her grandchildren in a way that made each one feel special.

Marie is survived by her children, Marie (William) Elwood, Justin (Lisa) Jacobson, Matthew Jacobson, Axel (Stephanie) Jacobson, Nathan Jacobson and Stephanie Jacobson; grandchildren, Matthew, Kieranne, A.J., Ashlyn, Emma, Sophia and Hannah; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Jacobson; nephew, Jonathan (Pearl) Ferrin, niece,, Bethany (Robert) Simpson; the family of Ben and Hedy Capul; and many cherished relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 33 years, Albin; her parents, Elden and Leona Anderson; brother, Jerry Anderson; and sister, Virginia Ferrin.

Marie passed away due to complications from COVID-19. In her final hours, Marie’s children and grandchildren were blessed to share Scripture, stories, prayers and laughter with her by phone, and her son Justin held her hand until Jesus took the other and welcomed her home. As they reflect upon Marie’s legacy, “her children arise and call her blessed.”

Due to the pandemic, a memorial service for Marie will be available to be viewed virtually starting Monday, November 2, 2020, on her obituary page at jacobsonfuneralhome.com. The family asks that donations in Marie’s memory be made in support of your local church.
