Jean E. Dudley

LAURIUM — Jean E. Dudley, 100, a resident of Laurium, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 19, 2020, at her home.

She was born on June 21, 1920, in Calumet, to Harrison and Lucille (Schwenn) Hodges. She attended the local schools, and graduated from Calumet High School with the Class of 1937.

Following high school, Jean began working at Newberry’s at the age of 16. She worked there until she met Wendell Richards. They were united in marriage on April 24, 1943.

He preceded her in death in December of 1971. She then became a homemaker while her kids were growing up, and in 1972, she started working at Public Chevrolet, until retiring in 1982.

In 1977, Jean married John “Jack” Dudley, whom preceded her in death in February of 2017.

Jean loved knitting and playing cards with her family, she was the master of pinnacle. She also enjoyed cooking and sewing. Jean was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and a Green Bay Packers Fan! Often times during the Tigers games, Jean would be sitting in her chair listening to the game and filling in her own box score. She could tell you any statistic about any of the players!

She is preceded in death by her father, Harrison, who passed away when she was 16. She helped her mom raise her siblings after his passing. She is also preceded in death by her mother, Lucille; her brothers, Bruce Hodges and Don Hodges; and two granddaughters, Jenifer and Ruby.

She was a life long member of the Calumet United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Marion (Howard) Boulanger of Maiden Rock, Wisconsin; her son, Jim (Doncie) Richards of Laurium; her grandchildren, Michelle (Mike) Hansen of Charlotte, North Carolina, Amy (Bob) Bennetts of Calumet, Wendell “Bob” (Dana) Richards of Helena, Montana, Jeff (Tania) Richards of Ishpeming; 15 great grandchildren; her sister, Betty (Don) Lundin of Houghton; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral service will be held in the spring of 2021. Burial will take place in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.
