Edwin Calvin Riutta

KINGSFORD — Edwin Calvin Riutta, 88, of Kingsford, passed away at Freeman Nursing and Rehabilitation Community in Kingsford on April 8, 2021. He passed peacefully under good care and with his wife by his side after successive battles with cancer.

Edwin was born in Houghton on September 22, 1932, to the late Waino and Irene (Wiinamaki) Riutta.

He graduated from Hancock High School in 1951 and Michigan College of Mining and Technology (MTU) in 1955 with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering.

He served in the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corp. and was stationed in Chicago from December 1955 to December 1957. He was then employed by US Steel Corp. in Chicago until 1958.

He married Dawn Dick, “the love of his life,” in Trucksville, Pennsylvania, on May 17, 1958. They resided in Chicago, and Ed was employed by International Harvester until 1964; Calumet and Hecla Mining Co. in Calumet, from 1964-69; and Lake Shore Iron Mountain/Oldenburg-Lakeshore/ FKC-Lakeshore from 1969-2007.

They were active members of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Iron Mountain.

Besides his wife, Dawn, he is survived by two sons, Mark (Lori) and Scott (Kris); four grandchildren, Shannon Stith (Bryan), Geoff Riutta, Sarah Riutta (Dan), and Neal Riutta (Megan); and one great-grandchild, Kayler.

Dawn would like to give many thanks to Freemans Nursing for the care given to Ed.
