Mary Burchby Niebuhr

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — Mary Burchby Niebuhr, died suddenly and unexpectedly on March 29, 2021, at the age of 76, near her home in Punta Gorda.

Mary is survived by her husband, John; her children, Eileen Burchby, Frank Burchby, Jr., Jennifer Niebuhr, and Rebecca Niebuhr, as well as eight grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents John Moynihan and Irene Nohren, and her former spouse, Frank Burchby.

Mary was born in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from Trinity College, and worked throughout her adult life as a teacher and school administrator in Chicago, Eagle River, Wisconsin, and Calumet. She enjoyed golf, cooking and reading. Some of the best times of her life were spent traveling and exploring; back roads and places off the beaten path always had the most appeal. She could often be found on long walks or beach-combing, her pockets filled with interesting shells or rocks.

But her true happiness was found in taking care of those she loved and cared about, and it showed in her every action and gesture. She will be so deeply missed by her friends, family, and all who knew her.

Arrangements for a private memorial will be made at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the American Cancer Society, or other worthy organization, in Mary’s name.
