Thomas Richard Mleko

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Thomas Richard Mleko, 53, of Pelkie, passed away suddenly, due to natural causes on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, in Fort Myers, Florida.

He was born June 24, 1967 in Lansing, son of Joseph and Margaret (Spitzley) Mleko. Tom graduated from Baraga High School, class of 1985.

While in high school he worked at Wahmhoff Tree Farm and local summer youth jobs. Later on Tom worked for Lakeshore in Ontonagon, construction locally and in Florida, Selkey Manufacturing and minor home and electronic repair. He enjoyed small engine and electronic tinkering, hiking/exploring local points of history/interest, hand-feeding birds, and loved to read – science to history to zoology. Tom was a member of The Most Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Baraga.

Surviving are his parents, Joseph and Margaret Mleko of Baraga; brothers, Steve and Debbie (Salonen) Mleko of Battle Creek, Kevin Mleko of Pelkie, Paul and Stacey (Shimp) Mleko of Wisconsin; sister, Jennifer Mleko of Baraga; brother-in-law, Dan Whitman of L’Anse; nieces and nephews, Jacqueline Walitalo of Wisconsin, Jessica Walitalo of Pelkie, Steve, Matt, Jacob and Hannah Mleko all of Battle Creek, Lindsay, Mitch, Luke, and Mark Mleko all of Wisconsin; uncles, Michael Mleko, Georgia, Donald (Natalie) Mleko of Keweenaw Bay, Jerry (Norva) Mleko of Mass City, James Mleko of Missouri, Larry Mleko of Iron River, Roger Mleko of Marquette, Eugene (Fran) Spitzley, Lansing; aunts, Bonnie (CG) Luce of Texas, Patricia (Gary) Wohlschied of Portland, Michigan, Mary Shepard of Morrice, Michigan, Barbara (Bruce) Pung of Morrice, Pamela (Mark) Thelen of Metamora, Michigan, Kathleen Spitzley of Portland; and numerous cousins.

Preceding him in death are his grandparents, George and Sally Mleko, Louis and Theresia Spitzley; sister, Theresia Whitman; uncle, Charles Mleko, uncle and godfather, Daniel Spitzley; aunts, Marie Manning, Elizabeth “Betsy” Spitzley; cousins, Shawn Mleko and Kimberly Mleko-LaCroix.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
