Mary ‘Gail’ Gilles

DOLLAR BAY — Mary “Gail” Gilles, born March 25, 1946, to Eva (Olson) and Walter Englund in Laurium, joined her beloved husband in Heaven on May 8, 2021.

The greatest joy of her life were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters and son, Robin Anderson, Jennie Hakala, Rebecca Norlin (Darren), Cindy Gilles, all of Dollar Bay, Robbie Gilles (Kylene) of Hancock; her grandchildren, Tessa and Andy Anderson, Alyssa and Kayla Hakala, Caitlin Norlin, Heather and Heidi Goudge, Kanyon, Arizona and Cooper Gilles; and great grandchildren, Evie Westerberg, Benson and Hudson Bukovich. She is also survived by her siblings, Betty Phelps, Jean Kojala and Carol Patrick; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Bob, she was greeted in heaven by her parents; siblings, Clarence Englund, Gerald Englund, Norma Peterson, Dolores Fisher and James Englund; grandsons, Hunter and Hadden Goudge; and her niece/best friend, Joyce Colombe.

The Gilles’ spent a great deal of time with the local youth of the community starting the Copper Country Band and Drill Team. Gail was a stay at home mother with her young family and as they grew she was a second mom/grandma to dozens of children with her daycare.

She will be greatly missed but we take solace in knowing she is with her sweetheart again and no longer suffering.

We would like to thank the Dollar Bay First Responders, Mercy Ambulance, Portage Health, and especially the ICU Department at UP Health System – Marquette for all of their care and compassion for our mom and family.

There will be no public service, the family will have a celebration of life at a future time.

Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services is serving the family, where condolences may be expressed online at fassbenderswansonhansen.com.
