George P. Kausie

CALUMET — George P. Kausie, 86, a resident of Calumet passed away peacefully with his wife and daughter by his side on Monday, August 2, 2021.

He was born on December 14, 1934, in Lake Linden to Katherine Kausie. He attended the local schools.

On August 20, 1960, he was united in marriage to Barbara Blau in Calumet.

George enlisted with the United States Army, and was honorably discharged in 1962.

He then went on to work for the Calumet & Hecla Mining Company and the White Pine Mining Company where he retired after 25 years of service. After retiring from the copper mines, George went on to work at Horner Flooring for several years, before working at Fraki’s Supermarket and then Louie’s Super Foods.

George was a hard worker all his life. In his healthier years, he loved being out in the woods cutting trees. Give him an old truck, a dirt road and a chainsaw and he was a happy man. He enjoyed working in his garden and watching the Detroit Tigers baseball games.

He also enjoyed having a Keystone Lite and a snuff!

His grandson Danny was his pride and joy. Their favorite thing to do together was to go fishing. Grandpa would always tell him fishing stories about his adventures with his good friend Sonny. Grandpa also taught him how to be wise, humble and to always respect others. The bond they shared will never be broken.

George is preceded in death by mother, Katherine, his sister, Rita Prideaux, and his brother, Robert Kausie.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara of Calumet, daughter, Roxanne (Jonathan) Billing of Mohawk; son, Michael Kausie of Ohio; his special grandson, Daniel Karrio of Washington; great granddaughter, Riley; granddaughter, Kymber (Kausie) Birkhead of Ohio; great granddaughter, Audrey, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Per George’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be no services.
