Clarence “Chipper” Richard Seppanen

NISULA – Clarence “Chipper” Richard Seppanen, age 77 of Nisula, passed away Friday, July 1, 2022, at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L’Anse.

He was born in Detroit, MI on December 6, 1944, the son of the late Richard and Isabelle (Kunick) Seppanen. Chipper attended Baraga Area Schools.

He operated the Seppanen Adult Foster Care for many years and had been employed by L’Anse Area Schools as a custodian and bus driver.

He married the former Norma Harlan in Baraga on June 16, 1987. Chipper was a lifetime member of the Ottawa Sportsman’s Club, Pelkie, MI. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger years, repairing items that had long been given up on, spending time with his family and playing Aggravation with the grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-daughter Tammy, step-son Jim, and step-granddaughter Lacey.

Chipper is survived by his loving wife, Norma; children, Linda Seppanen of Nisula, Dan Seppanen of Nisula, Sue (Scott) Wagner of Atlantic Mine, Deb (Keith) Byce of Bay City, and step-son, Bobby Mattox of Washington state, grandchildren Zach, Elli and Lily and several step-grandchildren.

A memorial funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2022, at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Ed Hulkonen officiating.

The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. Immediately following the memorial funeral service, the family invites friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the Harrington Gathering Room, located at the funeral home.
