Barton T. Kennedy

Barton T. “Bart” Kennedy, age 81 of Sidnaw, MI passed away Monday, March 13, 2023 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, in L’Anse, with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Coldwater, MI on January 6, 1942, the son of the late Keith and Vivian (Teachout) Kennedy. Bart graduated from L’Anse High School in 1960.

He had been employed by the US Forest Service, Pettibone in Baraga and then by CCI as a welder at the Republic, Empire, and Tilden Mines, and the Brownstone. Bart retired in 1995 from the Tilden Mine in Ishpeming after 30 years.

He married the former Becky (Hemming) Karianen in Sidnaw on July 13, 2003. Bart was a member of Sidnaw Methodist Church, Duncan Twp. Volunteer Fire Department (Chief from 1999 to 2021), Sno Valley Riders Snowmobile Club and the Supporters of the 494. He had also been a member of the Republic Barbershop Quartet, the Penguin Snowmobile Club and the Republic CB Club.

Bart was a devout Christian and enjoyed singing in the Christmas Cantata. He loved being out in the woods, hunting, ice fishing, making maple syrup, watching and listening to the birds. He was very “hands on’ with anything mechanical. He always said “I can fix anything but a broken heart” among many other witty sayings!

Bart is survived by his loving wife Becky, son Khris (Brenda) (Khris’s Mother, Orajane), step children Shelley (Ed), Kent (Sierra), and Koren (Derek). 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren. Sisters Jane and Faith, uncle Ronald and aunt Pauletta, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law Tom.

A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date and announced at that time.
