To the editor:

Although what I have to say is not a huge problem in the entire scheme of things, it does involve the suffering of living creatures, and does affect our communities.

I am speaking, once again, about the problem of stray cats. K-SNAG has been inundated since our organization began with calls reporting stray cats and kittens.

We are struggling to keep up with requests to remove these cats from their current living situations. We must place the cats in “foster” homes and after they have been cared for by a veterinarian, we begin the search for permanent homes.

Therein lies the problem. There are simply not enough people who are able to have a cat.

Most people who love cats already have cats. We are left with numerous cats that would make wonderful companions but have no where to go.

Our homes are filling up to the point where we feel the cats are not receiving the attention that they deserve.

Volunteers buy the food and litter for these cats. (unless we receive donations of such items, thank you all who have done this, it is a huge help!).

Evidently, the folks causing the problem are not reading my letters to the editor, so I am going to try another approach and appeal to friends, neighbors and family of people who own unaltered cats.

K-SNAG will provide financial assistance for the spaying/neutering of cats (and dogs).

Please encourage anyone that you know to call us (296-9144), and we will be happy to help.

If you are considering adding a cat to your family, give us a call. Our cats are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and vet checked. We will provide you with information on the cat’s personality and adaptability in a home.

Consider fostering a cat. We have many needy cats, and not enough time and attention to go around. If you are unable to foster/adopt but would like to help, please spread the word about the need for pets to be spayed/neutered, about the help K-SNAG offers and our need for foster homes. We accept donations of rummage sale items, cat food, and litter.

We will continue our fund raising garage sales on Lake Linden Avenue as long as the weather is not too cold.
