Marriage is under attack

To the editor:

My heart aches for America and its deceived people. The late Ruth Graham, seeing what has happened in America said, “If God doesn’t punish America, He’ll have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah.”

In the last few years the most precious human institution, marriage – has come under brutal attack in our country.

The spiritual and moral decline of this nation has reached an unprecedented low. As each month seems to usher in new evidence of our defiance against God. To put our so called cultural progress in perspective, consider that in the past few months alone America has moved closer to legalizing same-sex marriage across the land.

Now it has hailed the first professional sports athlete to come out of the closet as the “New Jackie Robinson,” Has forced christian organizations to sponsor abortion, has praised a vote from the Boy Scouts that now openly welcome gays, and has threatened to court-martial any Christian soldier who shares their faith.

No question, we are in a spiritual crisis. We see it at the very top of our country, from the White House to Congress. We have turned our backs on God as a nation. It is the time to speak out and say enough is enough. It is time for the church to speak up to their people and tell them to get out and vote. With the mid-term election coming up, it is time that we look at candidate’s moral values. Now is the time to stand up and let our voice be heard.

Pastors, now is the time to speak to your people to vote for candidates with moral values. When I was in the pulpit, I preached against these sins. I remember church members, and myself picketed Planned Parenthood in Houghton – and we shut it down.

Our beloved country, that was founded and settled by praying and God-fearing people has become a crisis-ridden, pleasure loving, God-forgetting nation. America is sick – heartsick, because she is sin sick. Her bloodstream needs a transfusion of new life.

America can be renewed today if she will prayerfully turn again to God.

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14.
