Technology classes were appreciated

To the editor:

Thank you very much to the Kellogg Youth Endowment of the Keweenaw Community Foundation and Western UP Center for Science, Math & Environmental Education for sponsoring two technology classes for local high schools. The first series of classes took place at Horizons High School. Students were taught the basics of computer aided solid modeling for 3D printing. They were also introduced computer programming for video game design. Most recently the grant supported a mobile application development class series at Houghton High School. Students from all local districts were invited. The class introduced the students to the in-demand skills of computer programming for Android mobile devices and vector based graphic design. Student teams worked to develop apps ranging from a job finder to an app that auto-responds to texts to prevent driver distraction.
