Vote ‘No’ to support library

To the editor:

Chassell Township is a significant partner in the Portage Lake District Library (PLDL). For the past 20 years (since 1996), Chassell has participated in making the library a vital part of this community. And yes, I speak of the “community” as a larger entity that goes beyond the distinct boundaries between Chassell, Portage, and Houghton. The citizens and taxpayers of these townships and city are the base upon which the PLDL has built its many programs, facilities, and services that comprise one of the best small libraries in the state and region.

The Daily Mining Gazette has chronicled, through its recent editorials and interviews with the PLDL director, the PLDL’s many assets: knowledgeable and helpful staff; diverse print and audio selections available on-site and through interlibrary loan; a well-used community room; hundreds of cultural, informational and engaging programs for all ages throughout the year; geneology and local history materials; technology-based resources and support within the library; numerous materials and learning tools accessible with a library card from off-site devices and home computers; a comfortable “hub” throughout the seasons and more.

By voting “No” on the August 2 ballot proposal regarding the Portage Lake District Library, Chassell voters will continue in the district library supporting a valuable community institution. Your vote matters and is valued.
