MusicFest was a success

To the editor:

The Keweenaw County Historical Society wishes to thank all those responsible for making the eighth annual MusicFest at the Historic School in Gay on July 23 a very successful event.

Entertainment was provided by: 1) Polka & Variety Band-Jim/Teri Enrietti & Don Masnado; 2) The Variations- Marv Hiltunen, Jim O’Brien, Ken Olsen, Dave Pomroy & Ron Rule; 3) The Wing Nut’s-B.J. Gariepy, Bill Kautto, Ron Lahti, Ken Olsen, Brad Parker, Matt Rosanek & Ron Rule. The sound system was provided & operated by the very capable Ken Olsen.

Items up for auction & donated by included the following: 4 Hour Work Detail-Keweenaw County Sheriff, Ron Lahti, Mike Dudenas, Larry Malloy, Dick Mintken, Richard Schaefer & Jim Wachowski; Fish Boil-Ned Huwatschek; 6-Jars of Homemade Jam-Addy Schmidt; Water Color Print, “The Neighbors” by Clarence Fisher; 1980 Cook Book (Ladies Auxiliary Sherman Township Fire Dept., Gay, MI), Copper Owl & Moon, Aspen Vase, Water Color Painting, “Eagle Harbor Lighthouse”, Precious Stone Necklace & Handcrafted Wood Basket with Sand Dollars-Genie Mintken; Handcrafted, “Covered Bridge”, Wooden Bench-John Kastelic; 2-Homemade Blueberry Pies, 6-Hand Painted Wine Glasses, Flag Picture, 2-Kid’s Fun Kit, Eagle Harbor Lighthouse Print, Copper Harbor Lighthouse Print-Nancy Sanderson; Handcrafted Log Slab Table-Jim Huovinen; Handmade Rag Rug-Eunice Kowalski; Hand Knit Child’s Sweater-Lynne Gerhardt; Bill Payne Photo, “Gay School”-Jim Vivian.

The Concession Stand was operated by the very competent: Marilyn Kastelic, Eunice Kowalski, Addy Schmidt, Bob & Ann Strykowski and Jim Yates. Bakery items were provided by Sherry Middlemis-Brown, Marilyn Kastelic, Eunice Kowalski, Genie Mintken, Shelly Saxton, Addy Schmidt, Ginny Schubert, Ann Strykowski & Karen Turner. Other volunteers were: Andrea daVinci Braun, Bob Alton, Gordon Karvonen, Larry & Nancy Malloy, Jack Marta, Shelly Saxton & Jim Williamson.
