1st vote was not a true consensus

To the editor:

I totally support the Chassell Township Board’s decision to put the library issue back on the ballot in November. I agree that not enough voters showed up to portray a true picture of the majority consensus. I also believe that if the vote had not passed in the library’s favor, the library supporters would have asked to place it again on the November ballot themselves.

The language needs to be straightforward. Maybe a simple yes to stay, and no to withdraw would help this time. Even the PLDL Board of Trustees realized that the language of the ballot proposal on Aug. 2 might benefit the library. The minutes of their April 27, 2016 PLDL Board meeting stated, and I quote directly from the board’s minutes: “It was pointed out that a yes vote means no and a no vote means yes which might be an advantage.”

Make the ballot language clear this time to get a true picture of what the majority wants.
