Community Coalition’s 20th

To the editor:

The Community Coalition on Grief and Bereavement recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of its founding.

In keeping with its mission statement to provide grief education, support and referrals to the people of Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw and Ontonagon counties, the program offered was “Seasons of Grief: A Journey to Healing.”

The Community Coalition on Grief and Bereavement is a local nonprofit 501c3 organization founded in 1996 to meet the unmet needs of grieving people in our communities.

In the 20 years since 1996, more than 40 programs have been presented.

We have many people to thank – first of all our panel, Toni Waara LMSW, Reverend Bucky Beachand, Barbara Kendall RN MSN.

The panel members helped the bereaved to understand normal grief and gave them strategies and resources available in the community to help them on their journey.

We also thank our sponsors and those who helped make the program a success:

Antila Funeral Services, Aspirus Home, Bonnie and Bob Johnson DDS, John Wakeman, Portage Lake District Library;

UP Health System, Portage, Yvonne at the Daily Mining Gazette and the board members of the Community Coalition on Grief and Bereavement.
