To the editor:

On behalf of the board members of Simple Kindness for Youth (SKY), I would like to thank the community members who made our Stars of SKY Oct. 13 dinner and auction an outstanding event. Our thanks go out to a number of community organizations and friends who donated their time and talent to the event.

Thank you Kathy Kumpula from Lake Linden Elementary. She enthusiastically shared her experience writing SKY grants and how the grants benefit students.

We are grateful to Roger and Janet Turpening who were our sponsors at the Miscowaubik Club.

Bob Hiltunen provided relaxing background music for the dinner, as well as auctioning his musical talents to entertain a private party.

Beth Jukuri donated two beautiful quilts to the auction.

Brockit Photography donated a 90-minute photo session.

Copper Country Community Arts Center supplied a framed photograph by Charles Eshbach as well as a $30 class gift certificate.

The Continental Fire Company donated a three-course meal for six people.

Thanks to their generosity and all those who supported the fundraiser, we will continue to fulfill our mission “to help young people build and maintain their self-esteem by providing means to access basic needs, enable them to feel accepted by their peers and enable access to educational activities and community participation.”

We thank Copper Country residents for continuing to care for our youth by supporting our organization.
