Sacrifices human rights, dignity

To the editor:

This is directed to my friends and neighbors who voted for Donald Trump.

Donald Trump promised to make America great again.

Our CIA has concluded that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman personally ordered the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Regarding Khashoggi’s murder, our President said, “Do people really want me to give up hundreds of thousands of jobs? If you want to see a global depression all you have to do is lift the oil price $50 a barrel. We want low oil prices and Saudi Arabia’s really done a good job. I am not going to destroy the economy of our country over Khashoggi by giving up arms deals to Saudi Arabia. It’s a very simple equation for me. It’s about make America great again and it’s about America first.”

Our founding fathers in the Declaration of Independence said, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness . . .” They concluded by declaring, “. . . we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.”

Donald Trump’s America sacrifices human rights and the dignity of men on an altar of oil and profit. In his America, greatness is defined by low oil prices and profits from the sale of arms.

The America that Donald Trump espouses makes me ashamed to call myself an American.
