Abortion is not murder

To the editor:

I am pro-choice. I am a Christian. I do not believe that abortion is murder. Every woman has the right to decide whether or not to carry a fetus to term. A woman also has the right to choose not to have an abortion. No one should interfere with either decision. Everyone has the right to have her own religious beliefs, but no one has the right to impose them on others who do not share the same beliefs.

Abortion opponents do not need a law to exercise their religious beliefs. Leave it to each person to work out her own beliefs and values. The restrictive and punitive abortion laws passed in Alabama, Mississippi and other states do not reflect the majority view on abortion in American society. It is sad to see the lengths to which the minority is willing to go to try to impose its religious beliefs, in the form of these extreme and unconstitutional laws, on everyone else.
