ALLOUEZ - Whether it's a routine oil change or a major repair, you can rest assured your vehicle is in good hands at Allouez Automotive.

The full-service automotive repair shop, located in the heart of Allouez, off U.S. 41, has been serving customers on the north end of the Keweenaw for more than a decade. Specializing in general automotive repair on all makes and models, services include: brakes, tires, transmissions, exhaust, diagnostics, shocks, struts, and more.

"We will pick up and deliver from your workplace or home," John Karvonen said. "We also have loaner cars available, too."

John and his wife Donna Karvonen, who works at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital, opened Allouez Automotive on Oak Street in September 2000.

John has an extensive background in the automotive industry. He graduated from the Nashville Auto-Diesel College in Tennessee and is an ASE and Michigan State Certified Mechanic, with more than 20 years of experience.

"I grew up working on cars," he said. "That's how all of this got started."

Allouez Automotive is an Auto Value Certified Service Center and has long been recognized for its top-notch, timely service and skilled technicians. Two employees work alongside John in the shop - Kevin Dilny and James Richards - and together, they guarantee quality, honest and friendly customer service.

While all repairs are backed by a warranty, Allouez Automotive's reputation has built a solid, repeat-customer base over the years, which John is very proud of. He said living and working in a small town allows him to get to know his customers on a first-name basis, even if its their first time dropping by the shop.

"I am grateful to all of my customers who bring their business to me," he said. "And, we're always welcoming new customers."

Being that Allouez Automotive is the Copper Country's northernmost automotive repair facility, John said he has customers coming from Calumet, Laurium, Copper City, Mohawk, and the surrounding areas. He even services a handful of out-of-town travelers, getting them back on the road in the blink of an eye.

"We have a quick turnaround on repairs," he said. "We get the job done right the first time for a reasonable price."

Donna said she lends a hand with the shop's office work, which allows her to interact with customers as well.

Both graduates of Calumet High School, John and Donna were born and raised in Allouez.

"I lived a block away (from the shop) and he lived right around the corner," she said, noting they are strong supporters of a number of community organizations. "Now, we live right across the street. We would like to say thank you to all of our customers, old and new, for their business."

Allouez Automotive is located at 355 Oak St. in Allouez. Shop hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday by appointment. Credit cards are accepted.
