ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Ralph E. Shaltz, age 86, of St. Cloud, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at Sterling Park Health Care Center, Waite Park, Minn.
Ralph was born October 6, 1925, in Calumet to Frank and Wanda (Tomalka) Shaltz.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. Ralph was a member of VFW Post 428, St. Cloud and St. Mary's Cathedral.
Ralph married Lois I. Rahkola on June 2, 1950, in Calumet. They moved to St. Cloud in 1963.
He was employed by School District 742 as a carpenter from 1964 until his retirement in 1991.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Shaltz of St. Cloud; son, Dale (Jennifer) of Plymouth, Minn.; daughter, Meri Shaltz of Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Emily Shaltz, Abigail (Todd) Feathers, Adam Shaltz, Arielle Herr, Eran Herr and Tessa Shaltz.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Clyde and Warren Shaltz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, Oct. 3 in St. Mary's Cathedral Lower Church in St. Cloud. Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 2, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial with full military honors will be in Minnesota State Veterans' Cemetery, Little Falls, Minn.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
