Kiwanis event helps kids

October 6, 2012
The Daily Mining Gazette

To the editor:

The Kiwanis Club of the Copper Country would like to thank the many people who purchased chicken dinners for the 55th annual Kiwanis Chicken Barbeque Sept. 8 at Dee Stadium in Houghton.

This event would not have been possible without the hard work of many volunteers from Michigan Technological University Circle K Club, Houghton High School Key Club and the impressive work of Kappa Tau.

Thank you also to the Bluffs, Jilbert's, Louie's Foods of Lake Linden, Walmart, Festival Foods, Gitzen Supply, Econo Foods and the Upper Peninsula Power Co. for helping us with ingredients and supplies.

Thank you also to Subway for sponsoring the printing of the tickets.

A very big thank you to the city of Houghton for allowing us the use of Dee Stadium and the Matt Manderfield pits.

Fact Box

The Daily Mining Gazette welcomes letters to the editor from readers.

A very special thank you to Kevin Maki of the Dee for being so helpful.

All proceeds from this event support local youth programs and projects of the Kiwanis Club of the Copper Country. These projects include Reading is Fundamental, providing three free books to all local third graders; Kiwanis Family Fair each spring; support of Kiwanis youth clubs; Kiwanis Nailbenders, building handicap ramps for local residents; and monetary support to multiple local non-profit organizations.

Thank you to everyone for helping us at Kiwanis to change the world one child and one community at a time.
