CALUMET - Thomas Adrian Nelson, 63, a resident of Park Avenue, Calumet, passed away Sunday afternoon, Nov. 11, 2012, at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium.
He was born July 29, 1949, in Calumet, a son of Ken and Bernice (Kolb) Nelson. He attended the local schools and graduated from Calumet High School with the Class of 1968.
Thomas worked in a foundry and then at the Post Office in Pontiac, Mich., for 10 years. He retired and moved back to the Copper Country in 2001.
He was a veteran having served overseas with the U.S. Army during Vietnam.
He married the former Jill LaFave on Sept. 5, 2010, in Calumet.
Thomas enjoyed Karaoke and fishing as well as collecting knives, picking rocks, bowling, art and reading. He loved his moped! And he loved his dog, Rosie. He was known by many as a practical joker.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Jill; three sons, Harry (Bridget) Nelson of Wisconsin, Tom Nelson of Wisconsin and Michael (Megan) Cadwell of California; three daughters, Erica (Tom) Bloechl of Wisconsin, Elizabeth Nelson of Calumet and Amanda (Gregg) Baril of Laurium; 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Patricia Butler of Marcelona, Mich. and Marlene (David) Wanhala of Ishpeming; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jean Harmala of Ishpeming, Lowell Besander of Ishpeming, Andrew (Patty) Besander of Ishpeming, Jayne Harvey of Calumet and Laurel Rosemergy of Green Bay, Wis.; special cousins, Linda, Janet, David, Butch, Wendy and Dolly.
A memorial service will be held at the Erickson Crowley Funeral Home in Calumet on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at noon with Rev. Ken Toth officiating. Friends may call in the funeral home from 10 a.m. until noon.
A luncheon is to follow at Jayne's L&L Bar in Calumet.
