LAC LA BELLE - Skiing and snowboarding destination Mount Bohemia is weighing its options due to a crack in a tooth in the gearbox that has shut down the triple chairlift. They are expecting a new gear to be installed and the chair to be back in commission Feb. 1.
Mount Bohemia proprietor Lonie Glieberman said due to the size of the gear, it must be custom-made.
"These (gears) aren't sitting on a shelf at a Home Depot," Glieberman said. "These things have to be custom-made. That is the unfortunate reality."
He added that they are weighing all possible options, one of which includes only opening the double chairlift. Another option is to make the pass people have bought good Monday through Thursday until the triple chair lift is running every day of the week, Glieberman said.
While the triple chairlift is down for a few months, the double chairlift on the other side of the mountain is still working.
Glieberman said he's sorry for the inconvenience this will cause customers.
"We feel really bad for our customers," Glieberman said.
Glieberman welcomes suggestions and comments, which can be made on the Mount Bohemia Facebook page.
