DOLLAR BAY - Gary D. Burcar, 75, of Dollar Bay, passed away Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at Portage Health following a long, courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Hancock on Oct. 31, 1937, a son of Frank and Clara (Kratt) Burcar and attended the Winona School.

On July 29, 1961, he was married to the former Lois "Dorene" Chopp in St. Joseph St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hancock.

Gary worked for Hocking Construction, Jim Burcar Logging, Tony Burcar Construction and Bill Siler Construction. Truck driving was his life.

Gary was an excellent gardener, always giving away what he planted. He loved bird hunting and deer hunting and was successful at both. He was very immaculate with his vehicles.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Clara Burcar.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Dorene of Dollar Bay; one son and two daughters, Lori (Rich) Carne of Dollar Bay, Darin Burcar of Dollar Bay and Ann (Al) Pruss of Howell, Mich.; six grandchildren, Jason and Breanne Carne, both of Dollar Bay, Alisha (Travis) Pihlaja of the Houghton Canal area, Nathan, Natalie and Avery Pruss, all of Howell; three brothers, James of Chassell, Tony of Hubbell and John (Linda) of Airport Road; two sisters, Clarice (Tony) Plesa of Florida, and Barb Majeske of Lake Linden; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gary's wish was to be cremated. There will be no public services.

Arrangements are being handled by the Jukuri-Antila Funeral Home in Hancock, Antila Funeral Service, Inc.
