The Daily Mining Gazette

WATERSMEET - Balanced scoring and a strong effort in the middle quarters put Chassell over the top in its first boys' basketball game of 2012-13, a 51-43 non-conference victory at Watersmeet.

The Panthers had four players score nine points or more, led by Josh Pietila's 15.

The teams were even at nine after eight minutes, but Chassell clamped down defensively and upped its offensive output for a seven-point halftime lead, then pulled away in the third quarter by scoring 20 points and holding the Nimrods to 11.

Brant Ryynanen pitched in 10 points for Chassell, which is at Baraga Thursday night.

Ryan Bain led the Nimrods with 12 points.
