Joan A. “Joanne” Dulong

HANCOCK - Joan A. "Joanne" Dulong, 84, of Hancock, died on Tuesday morning, Dec. 4, 2012, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock.

She was born in Houghton to the late Joseph and Josephine (Chiminatti) LaBelle. She attended St. Ignatius and St. Joseph Catholic Schools, later attending Hancock High School.

Joan married Paul DuLong on April 6, 1946. Together they had four children; Paul, Dan, Mary and Joanie. Paul preceded her in death in 1989.

Joan worked at St. Joseph Hospital in the kitchen and laundry. She also did housekeeping for well-known prominent families in the Hancock area.

She liked music very much and she liked to sing, crochet, write poems and play bingo. She enjoyed searching for agates along the Lake Superior shores and liked local history.

Joan was a faithful attending member of Church of the Resurrection in Hancock. She volunteered at the St. Vincent DePaul Store in Hancock, loved talking to people amd was known as a "people friendly person."

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Joan; four infant siblings; and a sister, Marie Pierce.

Joan is survived by her children, Paul (Val) DuLong of Coburntown, Daniel (Ruth Ann) Dulong of Franklin Mine and Mary (Michael) Condratovich of Hancock; 12 grandchildren, Robin Dulong, Kevin Dulong, Dan Dulong, Jodi Mikesch, Tara Dulong, Ann Marie Monticello, Michael Condratovich, Amy Bernthal, Steve Condratovich, Audrey Dawn Anderson, Dale Anderson and Mike Anderson; 13 great-grandchildren; a special son-in-law, Donald Anderson of Franklin Mine; a brother, Bernard LaBelle at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility; two sisters, Frances DeCesare at the Houghton County Medical Facility and Patricia Decker of Hancock; numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday at Church of the Resurrection with Rev. Fr. Brian Gerber to officiate. Spring burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton. Friends may call at the church for an hour before Mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the St. Vincent DePaul Store, 204 Quincy Street, Hancock, Mich. 49930.
