Support inspiring

To the editor:

The Barkell Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization would like to thank all of those who helped make our annual pancake breakfast a huge success.

We are so grateful to the students, families, and community members who, along with the faculty and staff of Barkell Elementary School, gave so generously of both their time and their money.

It was a joy to witness the warmth and camaraderie shared by friends and families as they took time, on a busy Saturday, to stop in for some pancakes. This year, we served breakfast to a record 803 hungry people.

It was the tremendous effort of the wonderful young people in our community that made this possible. As they've done for countless years, the brothers of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity manned the kitchen, mixing, flipping and serving up pancakes and hot sausage. The PTO cannot thank these young men enough for their unwavering support of our school. They were joined in their efforts by students from the Hancock High School National Honor Society. Responsible, hardworking, and personable, these students took care of everything. They set up the cafeteria, took tickets, cleaned tables and entertained kids at the cake walk. It was their hard work that made this event so fun for everyone in attendance.

We also want to thank the members of the Barkell Elementary Choir for providing the morning's entertainment. Led by Mrs. Waisanen and accompanied by Ms. Gades, these fourth and fifth graders sang beautifully, touching the hearts of many who were gathered. Finally, we'd like to thank Mrs. Scholie and all the students whose artwork decorated the tables and walls in the cafeteria. Everywhere you looked, there was something beautiful to enjoy.

Thank you to the businesses who contributed so generously to this event: Festival Foods, Vollwerth's, UPPCO, McDonald's, and Book Concern Printers. We treasure your partnership in supporting the education of our students.

With everyone's help, our event raised $4,600. The PTO is planning to contribute this money to our Playground Renovation Fund, where it will be used to support comprehensive playground improvement, creating a fun, safe for our kids to play. Again, we are deeply appreciative of the inspiring level of support this event received.
