LAKE LINDEN - Lloyd V. Short, 87, of Lake Linden, passed away Feb. 9, 2013, at his home with his family by his side.
He was born Mar. 10, 1925, in Rockland, a son of Henry and Lillian (Preiss) Short.
He graduated from Houghton High School in 1943. during WWII, he served in the Army Air Corps, flying 13 missions as a navigator in a B-24 Liberator over Germany.
In June of 1949, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degre from the College of Education at Northern Michigan University. He went on to earn his Master of Arts degraa from the University of Michigan in 1952. He worked as a teacher and coach for two years in Rockland and for 14 years in Lake Linden-Hubbell Schools as a teacher, coach and administrator, retiring as Superintendent.
He was married to Rosemary Spitz in Rockland on June 13, 1952.
LLoyd was a member of the Lake Linden United Methodist Church, the Lake Linden-Hubbell Lions Club, American Legion Post 90 and a former BHK board member.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary; six children, David Short of Lake Linden, Diane (David) Baril of Lake Linden, Bill (Rita) Short of Marquette, Barbara (Michael) Radeka of Scottsdale, Ariz., Dan (Mary Kay) Short of Kingsford and Elizabeth (Robert) Forget of LaCrosse, Wis; 12 grandchildren, Kristine (Nick) Daavettila, Jeff (Kiira) Baril, Heather Pear, Rachel Pear, Andrew Short, Eliza Short, Nick and Ben Radeka, Steve and Sara Short, Tyler and Tristyn Forget; four great-grandchildren, Isaac, Joshua, Alivia and Rowan; his beloved dog, Kiley; friends and relatives.
The Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 11 in the Lake Linden United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert White to officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday in the Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden. Spring burial will be in the woodlawn Cemetery in Rockland.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Lake Linden-Hubbell Public Schools Foundation.
