HANCOCK - Steve Jones and the Garden City Hot Club will be playing this weekend at The Orpheum Theater in Hancock.
Jones, who has been playing guitar since he was seven years old, formed the Garden City Hot Club after moving back from the east coast. He and current band member Bob Hiltunen formed it together.
"We started playing as a duo then we added (band member) Scott McIntosh."
Jones said he loves performing at The Orpheum because of the audience that comes.
"It's a captive audience more so than playing in restaurants and bars," Jones said. "The Orpheum, Rozsa, Calumet Theater or The Shelden Grill is the kind of place where people come for the music. It's a lot more intimate," Jones said.
Even if someone has never heard of Steve Jones or doesn't like the music they play, Jones said that shouldn't deter them from coming out to the theater to watch them play.
"Anytime people come and see us, at the end of the show, they say they have fun," Jones said. "It's not just musicians on stage. We're playing it for the audience."
Jones said they will also switch up the songs they normally play for the audience.
"We could play Slayer. I guarantee people will have fun at our shows."
Michael Shupe, owner of The Orpheum Theater, said Steve Jones and the Garden City Hot Club is a local favorite and the acoustics of the theater really help amplify the sound of the band.
Shupe is also expecting a big crowd for the show.
"People know that Steve gives a fantastic show and The Orpheum is the place to hear him," Shupe said. "This is more about the music. It's not background music. If you love music you should come see Steve Jones anytime you can."
Steve Jones and the Garden City Hot Club will be playing at 8 p.m. Friday March 8. Tickets are $10.
