Floryan (Buck) Bernard Wercinski

RABBIT BAY - Floryan Bernard Wercinski, 82, of Rabbit Bay, passed away Mar. 8, 2013, at Portage Hospital in Hancock.

He was born May 20, 1930, in Stambaugh to Frank Wercinski and Anna Hall. He attended grade school in Stambaugh and graduated from Stambaugh High School in 1948 where he was a quarterback on the football team. He continued playing football for the semi-pro Iron County Steelers from 1951 to 1954. Buck graduated from Michigan Tech in 1954 with a Bachelor's degree in Matallurgical Engineering.

On Dec. 31, 1955, Floryan married Mary Lou Gagnon of Ripley, a registered nurse and graduate of St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing.

After graduation, his first position was as a metallurgist for the White Pine Copper Company. His career continued in senior management positions with Phelps Dodge, New York City, Reading Metals Company, Reading, Penn. and International Nickel Company, Manitoba, Ontario and Penn.

In 1982, Buck and Mary Lou retired to their log home named Gull Cove in Rabbit Bay.

He is survived by Mary Lou, his wife of 57 years; their six children, Peter (Sue Ann), Peggy (Warren), Patrick, Paul (Monica, Patrice (Steven) and Penny (Thom); 13 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; two brothers, Waddick and Celestine.

He was predeceased by his parents; four brothers, Frank Joseph, John and Bernard.

He was a member of St. Joseph Church in Lake Linden.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 11 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Linden with Fr. Corbin Eddy to officiate. There will be no public visitation.
