SCHOOLCRAFT TOWNSHIP - A 6-year-old boy who got lost while berry picking Wednesday was found after a nearly five-hour ground and air search.
According to the Houghton County Sheriff's Department, the boy, whom they are not identifying by name, was reported missing at about 12:40 p.m. near a residence on Township Park Road in Schoolcraft Township.
He had apparently walked away from his family in an open field and wooded area while berry picking.
The boy was spotted almost 4 miles from the residence by a Department of Natural Resources Air Patrol plane. The boy was unharmed with only a few bug bites.
The Sheriff's Department and DNR Air Patrol were assisted by Michigan State Police troopers, along with their K-9 unit, in addition to Superior Search and Rescue, Ahmeek Search and Rescue, Bootjack Search and Rescue, Calumet Township Fire Department and numerous friends and family members.
