Over 50 teams get on field

TAPIOLA - After being rained out five of the past six weeks, the Over 50 Softball League finally got in two games Thursday night.

Houghton scored an 8-1 win over Chassell in the opening game behind the hurling of Dave Wisti, who checked Chassell on just six hits.

Pete Pellissero and Jed Pollard laced out three hits apiece for the 2-0 winners. Jim Perron, Dave Usitalo and Dave Hoffman counted two raps each.

Mitch Lake gave up 15 hits in losing it for 0-2 Chassell.

Tapiola notched a 20-5 win over South Range in the other game as Bill Petrelius, Harold Filpus and John Botto all collected four hits.

Dennis Salbashian and Pete Oikarinen added three hits for the 2-0 winners, who put the game away with a seven-run fourth frame.

Dick Franti, Glenn Mitchell and losing pitcher Brian Turner had two hits apiece for 1-1 Range.
