HILLSDALE, Mich. - For the second night in a row, the Michigan Tech volleyball team played the type of volleyball coach Matt Jennings has been begging for, and for the second night in a row the Huskies fell to a tough GLIAC opponent. Hillsdale defeated Tech 3-1 on Saturday evening at Jesse Philips Arena.
The Huskies won set one 25-22 before falling 25-11, 25-17 and 25-20 in the final three. Tech is now 9-19 overall and 5-11 in the GLIAC.
"We fought pretty hard again tonight, and for the most part, made a good Hillsdale team earn the win," Jennings said. "This was a strange weekend, in that we went 0-2, but played, at times, our best volleyball. There's a lot to take away from this trip."
Kendall Ward and Sylvie Rokosh once again led the offensive charge for the Huskies. Ward tied a match high with 14 kills while Rokosh added 11 and Shelby Jones contributed with nine. Madeline Haben set up Tech's attack with 40 assists.
"Sylvie did a great job scoring tonight, and so did Kendall," said Jennings. "Hillsdale was really camped out on both of them, particularly Kendall, but they stayed tough against a mighty big block."
Tech's defense had another good match with Jacqueline Aird (21) and Rachel Pohlod (20) both tallying 20 digs. Ward (11) and Haben (10) were also in double figures in the digs category.

"I'm most proud of our defense and how tough they played in the backcourt," added Jennings. "Jackie and Rachel were phenomenal all weekend."
The Chargers move to 15-12 overall and 10-6 in conference play and were led offensively by Emily Wolfert with 14 kills.
"Our offense was strong at points, particularly in set one, considering Hillsdale is the best blocking team in the league, we did a pretty good job," Jennings said. "Maddie once again was very impressive. She distributed the ball very well, especially when our passing got to be inconsistent. I think this was her best weekend of this season."
The Huskies wrap up the five-match road trip next weekend at Lake Superior State and Saginaw Valley State.
