BAY CITY - The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference released its all-league football teams for 2013 Wednesday. Michigan Tech's Brandon Cowie (West Bend, Wis.), Frank Vruwink (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) and Nelson Wienke (Kingsford, Mich.) earned All-GLIAC Second Team honors and six others were named All-GLIAC Honorable Mention.
Cowie, a freshman wide receiver, posted 58 catches for 933 yards and three touchdowns in his first year at the position since moving over from quarterback as a redshirt. The 6-3, 200-pound Cowie had five 100-yard games and finished second in the GLIAC in receiving yards per game (93.3).
Vruwink started all 10 games at left tackle for the Huskies. The 6-3, 275-pound sophomore was a big factor in Tech averaging 458 yards of total offense per game and leading the GLIAC in time of possession.
Wienke earned his second All-GLIAC Second Team honor after recording 41 tackles and 3.5 sacks. The 6-3, 265-pound junior defensive end had 6.5 tackles for loss and an interception to his credit, and was a key to the Huskies boasting the league's top-ranked pass defense.
In addition to the three All-GLIAC Second Team picks, Tech had six others earn honorable mention: junior quarterback Tyler Scarlett (Clarkston, Mich.), senior wide receiver Jordan McConnell (Clare, Mich.), senior offensive lineman Buddy Poljan (Hillsdale, Mich.), junior defensive end Cameron Allen (Clare, Mich.), senior linebacker Taylor Ziolkowski (Goodman, Wis.) and sophomore safety Brett Gervais (Lake Linden, Mich.).
Michigan Tech football finished its 2013 season with a 6-4 record.
