To the editor:
The Houghton chapter of the National Honor Society would like to give a big thank you to everyone who helped make the Chili Chase for Charity cross country ski race a big success. Without the generous help from the many local businesses and individuals who donated money and prize items, this race never could have happened. Among the list of sponsors are: Jim's Foodmart, Chickadees, Swift's True Value, Sew Irresistible, Armando's Restaurant, Joey's Seafood, The Kaleva Caf, Downwind Sports, Voil, Ronald Fisher DDS, Mike Lahti, Country Inn & Suites, Ski Tigers, Toko representative Mike Young, and The Library Restaurant.
We'd also like to thank Michigan Tech for allowing us to use their excellent trails and equipment, the groomers for prepping the course, the parents and students who came out to volunteer, and of course, Shelby Turnquist for donating her time to make and serve the delicious chili, which was certainly worth chasing!
Finally, we want to thank everyone who came out to ski and snowshoe at the event. Your determination and sportsmanship made for a friendly yet competitive atmosphere. Thanks to you, we were able to raise $500 for SKY (Simple Kindness for Youth), which will help local students, and $500 for the Michigan Tech ski trails, which will help improve the stadium area. We hope to continue this wonderful event in coming years, and we expect it to grow and develop into something the community will cherish and attend for years to come. We hope to see you next year!
